Lead Pastor Seach

Our church is prayerfully entering into a season of transition as we prepare for the future leadership of our congregation. A Succession Planning Team has been formed to guide this process of transitioning to a new Lead Pastor. This team is committed to seeking God’s direction, listening to the needs of our church family, and ensuring a thoughtful and Spirit-led approach to identifying and supporting the next Lead Pastor of Yosemite Church. With prayer at the center, we invite you to walk with us in the journey of faith and trust in God’s provision.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ Who are the candidates?

Right now, the Succession Planning Team is praying for God’s leading and just beginning the process of assembling a list of potential candidates. In these initial stages, we will not be sharing any names publicly out of respect for the privacy of potential candidates. Please trust that we are seeking God’s guidance every step of the way.

+ What is the process?

The Succession Planning Team is following a prayerful and thoughtful process that the Church Council has approved. We are praying, assembling lists of potential candidates to screen, conducting research into how they lead and serve and communicate, preparing to do interviews when there is a short list of candidates. At the appropriate time, we will share with the congregation who the Succession Planning Team determines to be a leading candidate. Our goal is to find the best fit for our church’s future.

+ How was the Succession Planning Team selected?

The Succession Planning Team started with three members from the Council and the five members of the Human Resources (HR) Commission. After a few months, the Succession Planning Team was expanded because of the effort that became apparent as the team gained greater understanding of the process and needs. Team members were chosen based on their demonstrated commitment to YC, its mission, vision, and values. Succession Planning Team members represent a good mix of ages, backgrounds, and church ministry participation, reflecting the heart of our community.

+ Can I join or give input?

While the Council appoints the official Succession Planning Team, everyone’s prayers and support mean so much to us. We would love for you to share any thoughts or questions you have, and please keep praying for God’s guidance in this process. We will also have a place on our website that will keep the congregation apprised of the Succession Planning Team’s progress and to provide input via a webform.

+ When will we have a new pastor?

Only the Lord knows the answer to this question. However, our goal is to have the next Lead Pastor in place within the next 12 months or so. This will give the new Pastor a season with Pastor Jeff before he retires. The goal is have a smooth transition for everyone involved.

+ What is Pastor Jeff doing after retirement?

As Pastor Jeff shared with the congregation, Pastor Jeff plans to stay involved with our church in different ways. We are thankful he is not going far and will continue to be part of our church family.

+ How will the congregation be involved in the process?

Your prayers and support are so important to us. The Succession Planning Team is doing the detailed work but there will be chances for the congregation to share input and meet candidates when the time is right. Please stay tuned and keep praying! We will also have a place on our website that will keep the congregation apprised of the Succession Planning Team’s progress and to provide input via a webform.

+ What qualities is the Succession Planning Team looking for in the new pastor?

We are looking for someone who is spiritually mature, caring, and shares our church’s vision and values. We also want a leader who teaches well and has a real heart for serving our community.

+ How long will the search take?

Only the Lord knows the answer to this question. However, our goal is have the next Lead Pastor in place in September 2026, about 4 to 6 months before Pastor Jeff retires in January 2027. This way, the transition will be smooth and steady for everyone.

+ How can I stay updated on the search process?
